Playing only with max credits, machine selection, and going for the royal flush jackpot are key to winning video poker.

How to play
In video poker you are automatically dealt 5 cards, you choose which to hold, you are given substitute cards for any you do not hold. You best 5 card hand is now compared to the payout table. In 'Jacks or better' video poker(the original and most popular type), you win for all poker hands that are jacks or better(i.e. you have at least one pair JJ, or any two pair, or any three of a kind, and so on). The better your hand, the better the payout.

Tips
(1) Most machines offers a royal flush jackpot, over the odds, but only when you play with max credits. NEVER pay video poker on these machines with anything but the max credits - if you cannot afford the max credits move onto a cheaper machine where you can.
(2) Look at the payout table before you play. Not all machines are equal. Look for the best payouts. Also, don't go mad for some of the more easier sounding games, such as deuces wild - yes deuces may be wild(i.e. the count as any card, aka joker), so you will make more hand but usually either the payout per hand is lower for jacks or better and/or you don not get paid for lower hands(e.g. three of a kind may be the minimum required for a payout!).
(3) Your edge over the casino comes in the royal flush jackpot, when max coins ate played. Thus if your five initial cards dealt are Ad,Kd,Jd,Ks,Kc YOU must not hold the 3 kings for three of a kind, you should hold Ad,Kd,Jd and discard the other two for a shot at the royal flush. Of course you are throwing away a small guaranteed payout, but for a more than fair shot at the big payout.
